How to play
- Tee off and pick the best ball:
- After both players hit, the team picks the preferred shot. Either the one closest to the hole or in a better position.
- Play within one club length of the shot.
- Yes, this can get you around a tree but you can’t improve your condition.
- If you are in the rough, you must play from the rough. If you are in the native, you must play from the native.
- Preferred lies ok, you do not have to “drop” and play. Set it, grip it, rip it.
- Play from the preferred shot and repeat until the ball is holed:
- Both players will play from the chosen tee shot and play their second (third, fourth, etc.) until the ball is holed. No minimum drives per player, no special order required. Pick your team strategy and make birdies!
- Count Your Team’s Score:
- Your team’s score is the total number of shots it takes to get the ball in the hole. Please use the google sheet doc for scoring. This will be used for live scoring and final results.
NO GIMMIES, MULLIGANS, OR SHENANIGANS.
ALL OUT OF BOUNDS (WHITE STAKES) CAN BE PLAYED AS A HAZARD PENALTY (RED STAKE RULES). 1-STROKE PENALTY
Using the scoresheet
We use a live scoring sheet that tracks all NET scoring & payouts.
Enter your actual GROSS score and the rest will automatically update based on your team hcp.
Scoring, skins, and payouts will update on the go so you know where you stand at all times
The sheet is a google doc excel spreadsheet that can be accessed from your phone. I know most of us have google docs/spreadsheets already downloaded.
- Enter your score in the respective hole/team cell (maybe also your playing partners).
- We have had no issue with at least one player from the foursome having the spreadsheets app and keeping score for both teams, if necessary
- No other edits need to be made within the sheet.
- Please keep score on course scorecard also
- Keep score for your own team and playing partners
- Confirm scoring with partners and end of round and that scoresheet is accurate
Scrolling to the right of the scorecard will have full leaderboard. Top three teams will be locked in the upper left portion of the view.
Screenshots from a phone are below.

- Sheet can be zoomed in and out with the names rows/holes columns locked
- Both light mode and dark mode can be used (light mode optimal)

Determining your team HCP
Team hcp is calculated per USGA’s recommended hcp allowance
For 2-player scramble format, you take 35% of the lower player hcp and add 15% of the higher player hcp (see chart below)
- Lets say John (lower hcp) is a 5.5 and Larry is a 10.2 (higher hcp)
- 35% * 5.5 = 1.925
- 15% * 10.2 = 1.53
- 1.925 + 1.53 = 3.455 –> 3
- Team handicap = 3
- HCP is rounded to nearest whole number (3.50 would round up)
- Team will receive a pop on the 3 toughest holes
